"We do not use the body to get into the pose, we use the pose to get into the body.”~ Bernie Clark

Yin Yoga is a beautiful, meditative, and centering yoga practice. Yin Yoga is often described as the other half of exercise. It is a complementary practice to more active styles of yoga supporting maintenance of mobility, healing, and an opportunity to explore mindfulness and the subtler aspects of a personal practice. Working with gravity, students move gently through poses, holding each pose for several minutes. This slow pace allows the pose to work within the deeper tissues. The long-held poses in Yin facilitate stimulation in the deeper tissues including: fascia, ligaments, tendons, and bones. Yin classes focus on the lower body; especially the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine.

The physical benefits of Yin Yoga can be deepened by nourishing the energetic body as well as the physical. Traditional Chinese Medicine wisdom says optimal health requires a strong and mobile flow of energy (Qi) through our meridians. The Yin Yoga practice restores and balances Qi through stillness and compression, and gentle tension. It is Qi that supports healing, physical nourishment and emotional balance. The Yin practice provides a balance to the pace of modern living, restoring students’ vitality and natural rhythms.

Leah was wonderful at tailoring the  curriculum to include different areas of Ayurveda that each of us in the session were interested in, along with sharing her wide breadth of knowledge with us in an easy and accessible manner.  I felt like I could've taken the Lumi sessions for weeks and still it wouldn't have been enough time.  I can't wait to further my studies with a wonderful soul like Leah Adams.” - Dejia Burdock (Yoga & Barre Instructor)
